THE HIDDEN WARRIOR IN A SECRET BATTLE

“It's the gradual, slight, imperceptible change in your own behaviour and perception that is the product.” -Jaron Lanier The imbalance of power experienced during the period of classical colonialism, when there was a massive expansion of power through the control of key assets, from trade routes to oceans, railway stations and roads to precious metals is in no way a distant memory among the powerless countries which were colonized by the imperial nations. During this period which can be traced back to have started in the 15th century, the imperial powers, pushed by political, economic and social motives, forcefully scrambled for and obtained territories from weak nations, exploiting their human and natural resources to obtain cheap labour, raw materials for their industries and markets for their manufactured goods. The good news is, the era of classical colonialism ended back in the 20th century when the colonies gained their independence, but a new form of colonialism is emerging...

Chi faces this!

Writing this on behalf of the child, regardless the gender, who walks so long to school, who lacks meal sometimes, who can’t afford school fees, health services, facing sexual harassment and gender based violence and bad enough who lacks person to talk to, the one who can absolutely give him hope to achieve his or her dream. I am the child, a little one, from Africa. My name is Chi, and am from Africa, a beautiful continent, when I was born, may be my mother felt happy that I came in her life, to my father the same.  I too have a dream, I want to be my dream. But, things had changed and they keep on changing every single day. And, I can’t see what’s future hold for me. Walking so long to school, things roll in my mind, will I find food when I get back home from school? Will I find my father drunk again and beat my mom so hard? And, for how long will I stay at school, as I even don’t know when I will be in my period, may be its today? Aggrrr, and this cousin at home, Will I f...

From TIMUN 2020

I was among the youths who got the chance to attend in the TANZANIA INTERNATIONAL MODEL OF UNITED NATIONS (TIMUN) in the year 2020 held in Arusha, Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology . I applied for it because I wanted to experience how TIMUN is, and absolutely to be among the youths who can participate in creating what they are particularly want through sharing different views depending on the theme of the year. Also, to be among the youth representative in expressing what youths hold in their minds, youths whom I left by streets, university and community as whole. Theme of TIMUN 2020, was “YOUTH ROLE IN CREATING THE FUTURE WE WANT”. The questions popped in my mind, what kind of future we want? Do we know what present hold for us? Can we experience the change in society depending on change in science and technology and other aspects? Are we ready for choosing what we want? Do we have power in making what we want? Is our environment conducive to accept what sugge...

Males Engagement in Creating a Gender Equal World!

Why Boys and Men Engagement is Important in Achieving a Gender Equal World. By: Jennifer Kayombo (SRHR and Gender Activist from Tanzania) For our dream of having an egalitarian society to become a reality, boys and men engagement remains critical and at the center of the realization. A more sustainable social, political and economic progress will only be attained if everyone - male or female will be involved. We need to take everyone on board because there is a role for each one of us and dismantling patriarchy needs our consolidated efforts. Some of the conducts in a male-dominated society have made some of female counterparts becoming even more patriarchal than male themselves. Whilst that happens; girls and women remain at greater disadvantages as revealed by the report of the United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) titled as ‘ The State of World Population – 2020.’  The report state that there are estimated 33,000 cases of Child Marriage which happens every day across the world...

June 16 - AFRICAN CHILD DAY

The Day of the African Child has been celebrated on June 16 every year since 1991, when it was first initiated by the OAU Organisation of African Unity. It honors those who participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976 on that day. From Genila Hiel, Nakumbuka June 16, 2007. Nikiwa nimeshikilia bango likiwa limeandikwa "SIKU YA MTOTO WA AFRICA" Sikuwa najua haki zangu kama mtoto, sikuwa najua kuna watoto walizililia wakati fulani nyuma.
