Jennifer, A girl with dream!

"I would like to tell my fellow teenagers, is to always do what they love. In this way, it brings warm happiness knowing what you do satisfies you".

Jennifer Wakarura Gatheca, 16 years old Tanzanian. She is currently in Form 4 going to Form 5. She is passionate about community service and Feminism. For a long time, she always knew she was privileged compared to that one girl somewhere else, lucky to be raised in a safe environment; go to school; etc

All this and understanding that some girls don't have what she has, or that are exposed to violence, keeps her motivated in her movement for change. A change where girls will be accepted for being girls and not restricted to things simply because of their gender. She March for a gender equality movement, so as both girls and boys can live in a safe environment.

She got appointed to be in the Adolescent Girls Advisory Council for Global Fund for Women.

What makes her to be that kind of girl?

Jennifer said, "I am today, is mainly my family. Am grateful that they raise me to appreciate the things I have and strive to help others with their needs. As well as, I think it's safe to say my experiences have helped mould an important part of me".

Her first internship at a cafe and my second one with Msichana Initiative. They have given her a glimpse of what it is, she want to do with her future and that is helping people and inspiring others to do the same.

During the Pandemic!

During this pandemic, she is currently homeschooling so from Monday to Friday, she usually have classes up until 3pm, thereafter she spends time with my family. And in the weekends, she watches her favourite movies with her family and well as exercising every now and then.

What can you tell your fellow teenager?

"I would like to tell my fellow teenagers, is to always do what they love. In this way, it brings warm happiness knowing what you do satisfies you. For instance, I like community service and I'm passionate about feminism, I never get tired of doing them all, because it's what I love to do. If you like cars, baking, cooking maybe or even drawing, go for it".

"You can never go wrong with picking what you love doing. Doing what I love is definitely one of the best things that have ever happened to me".

Hiking Day at Uluguru Mountains: A lot of reasons to conserve

Nestled in the heart of Tanzania, the Uluguru Mountains stand tall and proud, beckoning adventurers with their lush greenery, cascading waterfalls, and breathtaking panoramic views. As an avid nature enthusiast, I embarked on a hiking day at Uluguru Mountains, seeking solace from the bustling city life and an opportunity to reconnect with the pristine beauty of the natural world.    It was not a first time, and surely it will not be a last time. BUT, little did I know that this expedition would prove to be a transformative journey, both physically and spiritually.       The Ascent Begins With my backpack packed and a heart full of anticipation, I set foot on the trailhead around 10am. The air was crisp, and the sweet aroma of the surrounding vegetation infused my senses, drew my attention, that, it was time, time to get far and reconnect with the most beautiful and tiresome activity that am attracted to, accompanied by an experienced guide, not in such, but t...

Developing a Personal Mantra

Its been a long long long time since we were here!  Anyways, happy new year 2025!  I’m looking forward to sharing more stories, reflections, and snippets of daily life here. Come to "sharing", last year I got to hear a thing about "mantra" from a friend and a mentor, and this is what I firstly need to share before we dive deep in 2025. Mantras have a way of anchoring our thoughts and guiding our actions. As I approached 2025, I felt the need for a guiding principle that would not only inspire me but also provide a framework for how I navigate the year. That’s how I arrived at my mantra: Intentional Progress . This article shares my journey of developing this mantra and how it can shape my actions in the year ahead. The Importance of a Mantra A personal mantra is more than just a phrase; it’s a compass that aligns your actions with your values and goals. It serves as a reminder to stay focused and intentional, especially when life becomes overwhelming. For me, a mant...
